Letters to Steele, largely concerning the settlement of the Mississippi Territory. Included are letters from his brother, John, first secretary of the Mississippi Territory, describing his journey to Natchez by riverboat under the escort of the Cherokee Chief, Double Head, the country and the people, and his cotton plantation at Natchez; and mentioning a cotton gin and cotton prices in 1799. Included also are legal documents, 1798, 1833, and 1835, in regard to land in Virginia.
